Syllabus

Course Objectives

The learning objectives can be associated with the following expected learning outcomes:
*Knowledge and understanding*
The course aims to provide the basic methodological and application knowledge of the main tools for object -oriented programming, and for the analysis and design of algorithms.
*Applying knowledge and understanding*
Even if it is taking as a reference language the Python language, the course aims to provide students with the tools to understand and use any object-oriented programming language. Moreover, also with the help concrete case studies carried out in the laboratory, the student will be able to analyze and develop algorithms for solving fundamental problems, even using non-trivial data structures such as trees and graphs.

Course Prerequisites

None

Teaching Methods

Practice and exercises in the computer lab.

Assessment Methods

Knowledge and Understanding
The assessment of learning outcomes is carried out through the development of a Python project (mandatory, to be completed either individually or in groups) and its oral discussion (mandatory and conducted individually).
In particular, the oral discussion is intended to verify that the student is able to justify the design choices made during the project development and to modify the project by adding, for example, small functionalities beyond those originally required in the project specification.
The final grade for this 3-CFU module, expressed on a 30-point scale, takes into account both the project and its oral discussion.
For the final grade of the 9-CFU course, the project grade (expressed on a 30-point scale) is converted into an additional bonus score ranging from 0 to 3 points (0 points correspond to a grade of 18/30, while 3 points correspond to 30/30), which is added to the grade obtained in the 6-CFU module.
Ability to Apply Knowledge and Understanding
During the assessment activities, students’ ability to apply the knowledge acquired throughout the course is evaluated. In particular, students are required to demonstrate their ability to develop object-oriented programs in Python and to analyze and design efficient data structures and algorithms.
