The exam consists mainly of a written test divided into two partial tests, corresponding to the two modules of the course. Each of the two tests is graded on a scale from 0 to 32, and the overall written-test grade is the average of the two grades (31 and 32 are counted as 30 cum laude). Both partial tests last one hour and are held one after the other. The two tests may be taken during the same exam session or in different sessions. However, in order to pass the exam, it is not sufficient for the final grade to be at least 18: it is also necessary to obtain at least 12 in each of the two tests individually. On the other hand, if a student passes one of the two tests, its grade may be retained for subsequent exam sessions within the same academic year (but not for following academic years).
In addition to the written test, the exam may include an oral interview, which can be requested either by the instructor or by the student. The oral-test grade, which also constitutes the final exam grade, will take the written-test grade into account, but it may be either higher or lower than it. It is also possible to take the oral interview for only one of the two modules.
