Abstract:
The rhetorical handbooks of preliminary exercises (Progymnasmata or
Praeexercitamina) are tools for moral and civic education: the selection of some
anecdotes about the figure of Alexander the Great (and not only) is part of a
broader project of political education aimed at defining the outline of an ideal
monarch and legitimizing an autocratic power among the students.
