Abstract:
The essay examines the policies of work/family life balance, contextualizing them in the framework of industrial developments and the main legislative
provisions in Italy. The legislative production on the protection of maternity, the workplace and parental leave for both parents is analyzed based on
woman’s needs to emancipate herself from the traditional role of mother and family carer. Despite the fact that today women work more and more often
outside the familiar context, there is a lack of parallel progress, in the social formations, able to concretely legitimize the path undertaken by the female
gender. In addition, the author emphasizes that in spite of the appreciable interventions to facilitate the reconciliation of family and work, us-ing flexibility
as a way of performing work, in too many cases these plans have not been accompanied by complete implementation. It is only thanks to information
technology and remote work (that became necessary because of the pandemic of SARS-Cov-2) that the plans experienced an acceleration. Thus, although
any reliable evaluation of the model considered is still premature, the present article does not fail to consider the strengths and weak-nesses of the new
socio-normative framework
