La rotta balcanica: dalla comunità istantanea alla yo yo community

Capitolo di libro

Abstract:
THE BALKAN ROUTE: FROM THE INSTANT ROUTE TO THE YO YO COMMUNITY. In the last year the Balkan route, which connects the border from Turkey to Germany, has assumed a central role in the evolution of the migratory phenomena, as the main land route to reach European Union member Nations. The Balkan route has a long history as one of the most travelled routes to reach the Old Continent from the East and today became an “emergency route” to an heterogeneous humanity fleeing political instability, armed conflicts or conditions related to climate change. Those who cross these lands have to deal with a geopolitical condition of fragile territories and porous borders. The research aims to answer the question of how the migrations can influence the urban transformations through the experimentation of three modes of intervention: the instant community,
the liminal transitional community and the stationary community. The instant community
arises in response to emergency situations and requires established models such as recognition centers, first reception centers and mobile clinics, as well as new forms of hospitality. The liminal transitional community, which is in an intermediate state, requires specific spatial connotations to support the moment of crisis, to facilitate the social aggregation and to support the creation of a new community. The stationary community is integrated within the hosting social context and its spaces need to provide permanent shelter and facilities. The strategy for intervention involves experimentation with new models for inclusivity and integration that work in synergy and collaboration with the hosting community. These 3 different methods of intervention are the result of a design process that is attentive to the context and the available resources and that looks to the migratory flows as an opportunity to experiment a new design sensibility.
