Abstract:
The paper offers an overview of Bernhard Zimmermann’s contributions to the study of Greek tragedy. Zimmermann’s scholarship on tragedy spans over seventy publications, with key studies on the tragic chorus, relationships between genres, and the reception of classical texts. His monograph Die griechische Tragödie and editorial work on the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides reflect a balance of philological precision and interpretive breadth. Beyond his research, Zimmermann has fostered in- ternational academic collaboration, making a lasting impact on classical scholarship and mentoring a new generation of researchers.
