Abstract:
The paper aims to consider the role played by the concept of epoché in the development of Eugen Fink’s phenomenological philosophy. As Husserl’s last assistant, Fink undertook the re- writing of the Cartesian Meditations, adding a sixth one, in which the epoché led the transcen- dental ego to abandon any ontic-mundane determinations of empirical life, in order to be able to observe the phenomena in a «me-ontic» way disinterestedly. However, this redoubling of the transcendental perspective will be abandoned after a few years by Fink, to give way to the method of «enthusiasm»: according to this method it cannot be an act of the ego’s will to look beyond worldliness, but there must be an event leading man to transcend the narcissistic vision of his relationship with being. Fink calls this occurrence enthusiasm.
