Abstract:
This essay aims at showing the crucial role of epoché as suspension under two interconnected
points of view, i.e. the framing of the relationship between Foucault’s thinking and the phenomenology,
and the understanding of the conceptual structure of Foucault’s Archaeology of Knowledge.
If from the former the paradox of epoché better explains the ambivalence of Foucault himself,
who doesn’t totally reject nor naively accept Husserl’s inheritance, from the latter one can speak
of an appropriation and rewriting of epoché. Once freed from the transcendental perspective of
the reduction, the method of epoché shows itself as still operating also in Foucault’s Archaeology.
