Artificial intelligence-guided telemedicine in diabetic retinopathy screening in primary settings: improving hub-spoke networking
Progetto Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most important ocular complication of diabetes mellitus. Currently the use of telemedicine has allowed the use of screening programs for eye damage related to diabetes at a very early stage. As main objective we intent to obtain early detection of DR disease in children and adults, and to improve and optimize the patient’s management in National Health Service (NHS), to reach the following objectives:
1. to implement telemedicine and artificial intelligence (AJQ in DR in primary settings between territorial ophthalmological clinical units and National Center of high Technology in Ophthalmology (GNAT) and Excellence Eye Research Center (EXE) and to create an effective “hub-spoke” network program;
2. to validate AI method assessing the agreement with manual analysis;
3. to improve the DM management in the NHS and to reduce the NHS costs;
4. to develop a newly AI software to diagnose DME and assess OCT biomarkers related to DME presence and severity;
to develop a cloud web AI platform to diagnose DME and recognize the early OCT biomarkers.
