Syllabus

Course Objectives


Learning objectives:
The course will provide students with the appropriate grammatical and morphological and syntactic awareness necessary for its final objectives through clear illustrations and explanations reinforced by written and oral exercises. Students will be able to understand texts of a certain complexity on cultural, philosophical and pedagogical topics and articulate concepts clearly and correctly.

Course Prerequisites


Prerequisites:
Students must have at least a basic knowledge of grammar and use of the language.

Teaching Methods


Teaching methods:
During lessons students will be encouraged to actively participate in oral and written activities on an individual and group level.
These will include dictation, reading, translation and discussion of the topics dealt with in the coursebook. Lessons will include audio-visual material and the use of powerpoint slides. At the end of the course students will be able to read and understand texts about education and the social sector and discuss their contents in an articulate way.


Assessment Methods


COURSE GRADE DETERMINATION
Writtten verification test on grammar in order to proceed to the final oral exam where students will be assessed as competent (with no marks given). The exam will consist in a short dictation, reading and translation from one or more of the texts studied during the course and a discussion in English on one or more of the topics on the final syllabus.

Contents


Course contents:
Detailed and in-depth revison of grammar and vocabulary building exercises with oral practice to improve pronunciation and help students
acquire the ability to articulate phrases correctly at a medium-complex level on the topics dealt with during the course.

Course Language


English. Some Italian may be used to explain grammar points or technical features such as phonetics.

OTHER INFORMATION
Students must see the teacher responsible for the course individually during office hours before the beginning of the course in order to plan the work necessary for their individual attainment of the objectives of the syllabus. Non-Italian students will be given assistance.
