Course Objectives

Training objectives:
The course aims to complete the curriculum of knowledge of French literary history started with the two previous teachings, providing a picture of the cultural heritage of French civilization referred to the period mentioned above. Through the chronological study of a selection of key works and authors from the historical-literary period in the syllabus, the relevant dynamics in the field of genres, movements, currents and ideas will be illustrated.
The course will also focus on intellectual autobiography, a genre that acquires a prominent place in the twentieth-century literary scene as it responds to the attention to subjectivity that characterizes the twentieth century. The course aims to highlight, through the analysis of the autobiography of Gide, Si le grain ne meurt, and Sartre, Les Mots, the interest that the contemporary has in the forms of intellectual work and processes that contribute to the formation of the writer.
Expected learning outcomes:
Within the three-year period, this course is the last stage in the acquisition of the philological-literary context of the French language, both from a diachronic (literary history) and synchronic point of view (introduction to textual analysis and interpretation of texts). Of fundamental importance will be the ability to insert intellectual autobiography in relation to the manifestations of literary subjectivity in other genres and contexts.
Knowledge and understanding:

knowledge and understanding of the fundamental manifestations of the French literary heritage of the reference period (from 1870 to the present day);
knowledge of forms of autobiography and their interaction with other genres;
ability to understand the Frenchlanguage literary texts of the reference period.

Autonomy of judgement:

ability to describe and interpret literary texts of the reference period in a precise and informed manner;
ability to reformulate the issues related to the social and historicalcultural contexts analyzed in the period of reference.

Communication skills:

the ability to present, orally and in view of the textual types and literary genres, content and information relating to French literature of the reference period.

Course Prerequisites

Teaching Methods
