Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre Models and developments of the German Bildungsroman The course is focused on one of the masterpieces of J.W. Goethe, the Bildungsroman Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre. Before reading and commenting on the most salient passages of the work, the meaning of the term Bildungsroman will be clarified and the way in which it has been interpreted by various scholars will be analysed. In the last part of the course, students will be able to present the results of their individual research on a Bildungsroman chosen from those proposed by the teacher, based on the theoretical notions and on the analysis of Goethe's novel covered by the first part of the course.

Course Language

Italian (primary literature will be read partly in German)
