Course Objectives

This course meets the general objective, pursued by the Course of Study, of enabling students to acquire a solid proficiency in the language they have chosen to study (i.e. written and spoken Chinese), corresponding to level b2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The course, therefore, aims to complete the study of the fundamental grammatical (morpho-syntactic) and lexical elements of the Chinese language undertaken during the first two years.

Course Prerequisites

The course is suitable for students who have acquired the written and oral competence expected after attending the Chinese Language First and Second Year Courses.

Teaching Methods

Classes (42 hours in total), additional classwork exercises or tests (students are mainly required to translate sentences from Italian into Chinese and viceversa).

Assessment Methods

-Mid-term tests (translating sentences and texts from Italian into Chinese and viceversa)
- Final written and oral exams. The written exam, of a 2 hours duration, consists in translating sentences from Italian into Chinese and translating a newspaper article from Chinese into Italian (the use of dictionaries is not permitted, the teacher will provide a glossary of words which have not been explained during class). The oral exam consists in reading, translating and analysing (from a morpho-syntactic perspective) texts included in the handbook and newspaper articles (previously explained in class). In order to be admitted to the oral examination, students must have passed the written one. The final result, at the end of the oral exam, is expressed with a 30-point scale (passing: 18 to 30 cum laude).
