Syllabus

Course Objectives


This course contributes to achieving the learning objectives of the Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques by preparing healthcare professionals who are able to:

apply epidemiological methods to analyze the spread of diseases within populations;
use biomedical knowledge to implement and evaluate key prevention strategies;
understand the role of major environmental matrices in relation to individual and population health.

As stated in the Academic Regulations.

Teaching Methods


The course is structured in 2-hour lectures according to the academic calendar. The lessons include a strong interactive component between the instructor and the students.Attendance is mandatory.

Assessment Methods


Oral exam: the student is required to demonstrate their knowledge by clearly and systematically presenting the topics assigned by the instructor. Assessment will be based on a grading scale of thirty points.

Contents


The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge of epidemiology and prevention, with a particular focus on health promotion and an understanding of the main determinants that influence the health status of the population.
Main Topics:

Definition and fundamental principles of health promotion and prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases
The concept of causality in epidemiology
Analysis of health determinants: individual, social, environmental, and economic factors
Objectives and levels of prevention: primary, secondary, and tertiary
