Syllabus

Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to attain an adequate knowledge of the literature regarding Art in the Western civilization, from Ancient Times to the Humanistic Era. Reading of the texts has the objective to learn the main concepts as well as the proper language of the criticism of art.

Course Prerequisites

It is advisable to take the exam after taking the exams of History of Medieval Art and the History of Modern Art.

Teaching Methods

Lectures.
Slides.
A study trip is planned

Assessment Methods

Oral exam.
Final mark is expressed on a thirty point scale.
Attending students need to take a midterm written exam.

Text and image: topics and forms of discourse relating to Art from the Ancient Times to the Humanistic Era.

The course examines the tradition of the writings on art from the beginning in the Greek world to Vasari, pointing out the elements of continuity and the innovative factors preceding the awareness of the Humanistic Renaissance regarding the criticism of art developed in the Classical world.
