Syllabus

Course Objectives


Ability to orient oneself chronologically and geographically in the areas of the Islamic world covered by the course.

Course Prerequisites


None

Teaching Methods


Lectures with powerpoint. Students will be stimulated to participate in the analysis of plans, monuments and iconographic themes.

Assessment Methods


Oral examination graded in thirtieths. Starting with a topic of their choice, students are required to demonstrate the understanding of the basic concepts of Islamic art, the ability to orientate themselves geographically and chronologically, and the ability to make critical connections between topics.

Students enrolled in 2023 will follow the programme in Muslim Archaeology and History of Art worth 6 credits (Archaeology specialisation) or 9 credits (Art History specialisation).

Students enrolled in 2024 will follow the programme in Islamic Archaeology and History of Art worth 6 credits for both the Archaeology and Art History specialisations.
