Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to provide basic knowledge related to Christian archaeology, concerning the material manifestations of the first Christian communities within a chronological framework from the 2nd to the 7th century AD, enabling the student to recognize and contextualize them within the complex framework of late antiquity.

No prerequisites required.

Teaching Methods

The course is organized into a teaching module that includes lectures, visits to archaeological sites and museums, conferences, and seminars on specific aspects of the discipline.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of an oral interview, graded on a scale of thirty, in which the student must critically illustrate the topics covered during the course.

The course aims to provide the basic content of Christian archaeology, through the acquisition of a research methodology that focuses on the formation and organization of the first Christian communities through archaeological data and documentary sources, from the late antiquity to the early Middle Ages.

Attendance at lessons is highly recommended. In the case of a justified and documented inability to attend, it is necessary to agree on the program with the lecturer. All teaching materials useful for the exam not available at the "Paratore" library or obtainable through normal commercial channels will be uploaded to the university's E-learning platform, along with the program and the complete list of texts useful for the exam.
