Course Objectives

The ongoing transformation of work and life courses calls for a continuous refinement of both interpretative frameworks and analytical tools related to the organization of personal care services. Sociology, with its focus on the interaction between individuals and systems, and between organizations and their reference contexts, plays a crucial role in understanding how organizations are built and how they evolve within local territories. From this perspective, the course first addresses the distinctive features of the sociological approach to organizations, as compared to the broader field of social sciences, offering a framework for defining and interpreting their key characteristics. It then introduces some essential tools for organizational analysis, aimed at identifying core components, internal and external dynamics, and pathways of change. Finally, the sociological perspective on organizations is contextualized within the evolving framework of the Italian social and healthcare service system, with particular focus on the challenges and opportunities of organizational integration.
