Syllabus

Course Objectives


The course aims to provide basic knowledge and skills related to the practice and clinical tools necessary to carry out psychological interventions in the juvenile legal field.

An interdisciplinary approach will be used to integrate legal and clinical elements. Ethical and deontological aspects involved in the professionalism of the forensic psychologist will be taken into consideration, favoring an experiential and applicative approach, through exercises on forensic cases.





Learning outcomes

The course provides useful knowledge in order to understand some areas of practice of the forensic psychologist from a multidisciplinary perspective.

The course training will allow you to acquire the following skills:



Knowledge and understanding:

- know and describe the multidisciplinary identity of forensic psychology;

- know the characteristics of the object of study and the method options in forensic psychology research;

- know the main regulatory references regarding the protection of the children;

- know the techniques for listening to children in civil proceedings regarding custody;

- describe specific aspects relating to legislation, evaluation and management regarding juvenile deviance;

- know the main cybersecurity threats and the main forensic applications of artificial intelligence.



Independent judgement:

- describe and analyze the main applications of psychological methods in the field of juvenile justice by adopting a multifactorial and interdisciplinary perspective;

- connect legal and psychological constructs on the topic of juvenile justice;

- identify psychological tools for intervening in the field of juvenile justice.



Communication skills

The student will be able to:

- describe the main rules for the protection of children in civil and criminal judicial proceedings;

- use specialized language to describe phenomena of psychological interest and evaluation and treatment techniques in the forensic field.


Course Prerequisites


No preparatory constraints are however required.


Teaching Methods


The course is structured in 54 hours of frontal teaching and guided practical exercises. This amount is divided into 2-3 hours lessons according to the academic calendar.


Assessment Methods


The exam will be constituted by an oral examination aimed to assess the knowledge, the conceptual mastery, the linguistic skills, the ability of interpretation and analysis of psychologists’ intervention in forensic setting. The exam will be evaluated on a score range from 18 to 30. A score 18-23 indicates a sufficient knowledge, 23-28 a good level of knowledge, 28-30 an excellent knowledge, "cum laude" particular abilities of analysis and critical reasoning
