Syllabus

Course Objectives


Aim of the course is to provide knowledge and competence on theoretical models and clinical practice in clinical psychology. Learning outcomes:

The course aims to complete the training with notions and instruments that will help the student to deepen the psychological aspects of clinical psychology. The training of the course of Psychological Sciences and Techniques will be achieved and enriched by the following competencies:



Knowledge and comprehension skills

- to describe the psychological determinants of human behavior;

- to describe the fundamental characteristics of human behavior;

- to know the main theoretical models of mental and behavioral functioning;

- to know the clinical features of psychopathology.

Judgment autonomy

- to link psychological constructs and health dynamics;

- to assess the main psychopathological disorders.

Communication skills

The student will be able to:

- relate psychological models to human behavior;

- differentiate psychopathological disorders and functioning.




Course Prerequisites


No preparatory constraints are required.




Teaching Methods


The course is scheduled in 64 hours of in-class teaching in sessions of 2 or 3 hours based on the academic schedule. In-class sessions will be constituted by discussing theoretical aspects and clinical features of normal and abnormal behavior and differential diagnosis in psychopathology. The attendance is not mandatory.




Assessment Methods


The exam will be constituted by one written and/or oral examination aimed to assess the knowledge, the conceptual mastery, the linguistic skills, the ability of interpretation and analysis of assessment data and psychotherapeutic processes. The exam will be evaluated on a score range from 18 to 30. A score 18-23 indicates a sufficient knowledge, 23-28 a good level of knowledge, 28-30 an excellent knowledge, "cum laude" particular abilities of analysis and

critical reasoning.

Theoretical constructs in clinical psychology. Adjustment, risk factors and psychopathology. Assessment in clinical psychology: theoretical constructs, methods, instruments and diagnosis. Mood disorders. Anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Somatization disorders. Trauma and related disorders. Addiction, behavioral and impulse control disorders. Eating disorders and nutrition. Personality disorders. Process of psychological interventions.Referral questions and psychological mindedness. Setting and psychological interventions. Definition and application of psychotherapy. Main psychotherapy models. Empirical evidence in psychotherapy: levels of evidence and epistemological problems. Common factors in psychotherapy. Clinical practice in psychotherapy.
