Syllabus

Course Objectives

The teaching contributes to the fulfilment of the learning objective of the three-year course Degree in Philosophy and Pedagogy, supplying students with the basic knowledge and competences in Management, in addition to the theoretical knowledge and operational powers in pedagogy and teaching methodology. The teaching aims at conveying concepts and the basic knowledge of management skills in order to offer an insight of the structure and the mode of operation of companies, both state and private. The teaching contributes to the education of a professional having managing skills in the field of vocational education. At the end of the course the student will reach the following objectives in terms of: Knowledge and learning abilities: ­ - to identify the unique features of the company; ­ - to recognize the different organizational structure of companies; ­ - to describe the operational aspects of the company; ­ - to illustrate the basic parts of the strategic plan; ­ - to manage the basic elements of marketing mix; ­ - to identify the relations company-stakeholders with a view to develop the corporate social responsibility. Autonomous judgement: ­- to adopt management skills towards the corporate; ­- to interpret empirical data coming to light. Communications skills: ­- to use the specific language in the interpretation of the business process; ­- to take part in the solution of the problems affecting the operational management of the company.

Course Prerequisites

No specific knowledge is needed to learn the subject easily.

Teaching Methods

The teaching makes use of whole class teaching, which is interactive and engaging, integrated with various methods selected according to the students’ needs as well as the follow–up needs pointed out during the course. To be more detailed, we can say that the teaching consists of 48 hours of whole class teaching, divided in two-hour classes as per calendar. In order to ease the accomplishment of the objectives, the working method will favour dialogue and active participation to the lesson, making use of both whole class teaching and guided discussion, group works and the participation in seminars concerning the topics covered, presented by members of the business world. Attending the course is optional, but recommended. The final test will be the same for every student, whether attending the course or not.

Assessment Methods

In order to evaluate students’ learning, oral tests will be provided. Oral tests will be assessed according to the following criteria: knowledge of the subject, ability to organise and report the subjects grasping their patterns; ability to interpret and analyse the policies and the managing tools of human resources; business lexicon competence; correctness and relevance of the presentation; coherence, strength; critical approach towards suggested issues. The oral test will cover the entire coursework and it will be successfully assessed with the minimum mark of 18 out of 30.

Contents

The teaching introduces the field of subjects analysing business administration under different aspects: management skills organization, strategy, marketing techniques, corporate social responsibility. The learning path starts with introductory elements necessary or the study of management techniques, to go on with the analysis of the company organizational set-up, then the main aspects of business management are analyzed, with regard to finance, production, calculation of entrepreneurial income, capital. The course continues analyzing the role of planning and devising business strategies. The learning path focuses on marketing as a process meant to achieve customer satisfaction. At the end of the course the theme of corporate social responsibility is introduced, identifying the way of managing the relationship customer\stakeholders whilst ensuring the compliance with ethical principles.
