Syllabus

Course Objectives


Students will strenghten their skills with a wide range of literary terms and categories relating to literary history, theory, and criticism, including figurative language. They will also develop skills in close reading, interpretation, historical contextualization, and critical thinking.

Course Prerequisites


Good understanding of written and oral English.

Teaching Methods


Regular lessons and class presentations.

Assessment Methods


The final exam is structured in three parts:


-an oral examination (3-5) questions, to assess the student's knowledge of the texts, the themes, and their relation to US culture at large (50% of the grade).


- A 8-10-pages paper in English about texts and themes discussed with the instructor (40% of the grade). The paper should be sent to the instructor no later than 5 days before the appello.


- A short abstract, presenting the topic and the purpose of the paper, the texts that will be analyzed (10% of the grade).
