L0057 - ROMANCE PHILOLOGY AND LINGUISTICS I

The course aims to make students able to translate and comment a text written in a medieval Romance language, taking data from a critical edition or from studies related to the tradition of the work. In a more general sense it provides an useful tool for learning medieval literature, history and study ancient language, which constitutes a significant increase in the cultural education and linguistic skills of students who wants to became teachers, translators of ancient literary texts or that are looking for a resarch career.

• Knowledge and understanding
Students will have to prove that they have acquired with the title of the three-year degree a set of knowledge that will allow them to elaborate personal and original ideas on issues of French and Spanish texts from the Middle Ages, identifying research problems both in linguistic and critical-literary field.
• Applying knowledge and understanding
Students must be aware of essential lines of ancient French and medieval Spanish historical grammar. They also will be able to apply philological method to narrative texts written in ancient French and medieval Spanish.
• Making judgements
Students must be able to formulate independent judgments fully documented on a scientific level, regardless of the indications of the teacher, also through the experience of an individual in-depth study of a subject covered in class.
• Communication skills
Students will be able to communicate in a clear and unambiguous manner their own assessments on the subject, showing full possession of the specialized language of the discipline.
• Learning skills
Students must be able to apply their knowledge to large and interdisciplinary contexts both in the history of language and in ancient French and medieval Spanish texts’ ecdotic.
