Syllabus

Course Objectives


By the end of the course, students will be able to:
-identify and describe the main phases and phenomena of Chinese literature from the period of the Five Dynasties to the Qing dynasty;
-place authors and works within their historical, cultural, and social contexts;
-critically analyze texts of different genres using appropriate terminology.

Course Prerequisites


To have basic knowledge of modern Chinese and of the historical and literary context of contemporary China.

Teaching Methods


Lectures and interactive classes with student participation, possible use of multimedia materials.
Reading, translation and discussion of literary texts in class.

Assessment Methods


Oral exam.

The course aims at exploring the main phenomena and literary genres of China from Five Dynasty period to the Qing dynasty, relating literary production to the historical, political, cultural, and social contexts in which it developed.

Italian.

The syllabus for non-attending students is the same as for attending students.
However, non-attending students are required to contact the instructor in order to obtain the materials distributed during classes (critical essays, readings, etc.).
