Course Objectives


Knowledge and understanding:
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills of written and oral French according to the B1/B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Applying knowledge and understanding:
Thanks to the acquisition of linguistic and cultural skills in French and Francophone areas, students will be able to use and combine knowledge in an interdisciplinary way, and compare different linguistic and cultural domains.
Making judgment:
By interpreting useful data for formulating independent judgments, students will be able to face problematic situations resulting from the comparison between different languages and cultures, and combine knowledge in an interdisciplinary way, orienting themselves in the context of intercultural mediation.
Communication skills:
Students will acquire the ability to express information, opinions, projects and solutions in a complex and articulated way, and effectively communicate what they have learned during the course of studies in mediation working contexts in an autonomous way.
Learning skills:
Students will be able to create relationships and interact with heterogeneous interlocutors in different professional and cultural contexts, in which they will know how to interpret, understand, and use the formalities of expression and communication in autonomous way. They will also develop the capacity to learn on an ongoing basis, identifying strategies to acquire new knowledge and skills.

Course Prerequisites


The course is aimed at students who have acquired, both in writing and in speaking, a thorough knowledge of the grammatical, morphosyntactic and lexical structures of the French language at level A2+. The Language I exam is a prerequisite for passing the French Language II exam.

Teaching Methods


Lectures, group and individual work, translation lab.

Assessment Methods


1. Written tests – B1 Language Practice (lettorato)Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Listening comprehension (Dictée) and reading comprehension with questions, followed by a final written production task.
Oral test – lettorato:An oral exam aimed at certifying the required level of language proficiency.
2. Written tests – Language course
Total duration: 2 hours
➤ Semi-structured grammar and syntax test (related to Module 1)Duration: 30 minutesClosed- and open-ended exercises aimed at assessing basic grammatical and syntactic competence.

The course is divided into three progressive modules
Module A: improving the morpho-syntactic and lexical skills to reach a B1+ level according to the CEFR.
Module B: History and practice of translation
Module C: L’interculturel dans l’espace francophone: enjeux et perspectives, lexical, morphosyntactic and textual aspects of French.
Language instructor (Marisa Bove)
The lectureship course aims to reinforce the four language skills (oral and written comprehension, oral and written production) of the French language in order to reach level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference.
