Syllabus

Course Objectives


The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and skills to collect useful data for business management and to apply appropriate statistical methods for business in order to deal with decision-making problems that affect the complex phenomena of the entire firm activity.

To this purpose, the course aims to convey advanced knowledge and skills in the quantitative field, in order to favor the correct reading and interpretation of business data to support the firm decision-making process.

In particular, these objectives can be associated with the following expected learning outcomes:

a) Knowledge and understanding

The student will have to demonstrate knowledge of both collection and organization of business data techniques and statistical methods for business analysis, according to available data and different information needed. In addition, he will have to demonstrate the ability to interpret the results obtained and provide information supporting management decisions.

b) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding

The student must demonstrate the ability to apply the acquired knowledge and statistical techniques for the diagnosis and understanding of business phenomena.

c) Autonomy of judgment

The student will have to demonstrate the development of the ability to independently choose the most suitable type of analysis based on the reference context and the type of data available, as well as the ability to interpret the results obtained autonomously through an advanced statistical analysis.

d) Communication skills

The student must demonstrate to understand the topics and the proposed methodology and to be able to illustrate the contents in a clear and appropriate way and to know how to apply them in business and economic contexts.

e) Learning ability

The student will be able to carry out individual and group research on specific aspects of the subject, also in the firm context, and to compare own skills with the most recent approaches.




Course Prerequisites


Knowledge of general mathematics and descriptive statistics is recommended.




Teaching Methods


The course includes 72 hours of lessons divided into 3 weekly lessons and will be organized in frontal lessons, exercises, case studies.



Frequency is recommended.




Assessment Methods


The assessment of the learning level will be carried out with the use of a written test.

The written examination consists of: i) both open and multiple choice questions about topics covered during the course; ii) exercises in which students are asked to solve real case-studies using statistical methods presented during the course.

The exam score is on a 30-point scale.
