Course Objectives


At the end of the course, the student will be able to:


Understand key cellular and tissue pathological processes.

Describe the main diagnostic methods in pathological anatomy and their clinical relevance.

Identify major neoplastic and precancerous lesions of the oral cavity.

Recognize the role of pathological anatomy in the early detection of oral and systemic neoplasms.

Course Prerequisites


Students are expected to have basic knowledge of:


Anatomy and physiology of the stomatognathic system.

Cell biology and histology.

Fundamentals of microbiology and immunology.

Teaching Methods


Lectures with visual materials, discussion of clinical cases, and observation of digital histological slides.

Assessment Methods


The examination will involve an oral interview covering all aspects of the integrated course. To assess the interview, the following indicators and descriptors will be considered:

DESCRIPTORS: Complete: 30 In-depth: 29 - 27 Fair despite some gaps: 26 - 24 Fully sufficient: 23 - 21 Just enough with obvious shortcomings: 20 - 18

DESCRIPTORS: - Rigorous and documented, emphasizing the ability to utilize acquired knowledge and connect it in the argument: 30 - Precise and detailed: 29-27 - Adequate: 26-24 - Fully sufficient: 23-21 - Just enough: 20-18
INDICATORS: Expressive correctness, scientific language skills, communicative ability
DESCRIPTORS: Refined and original: 30 Clear, fluent and correct: 29 -27 Fair: 26 - 24 Sufficient: 23 - 21 Not fully adequate: 20 -18
The module's final grade will be determined by averaging all subject tests. In order to successfully pass the exam, you must obtain a minimum grade of 18 out of 30. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate that he has acquired an excellent understanding of all the topics covered during the course and can connect them logically and coherently.

The Pathological Anatomy course aims to provide Dental Hygiene students with fundamental knowledge of cellular and tissue alterations relevant to dentistry and medicine, focusing on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and classification of major oral diseases, as well as the diagnostic methods used in the Pathology Department. The course also highlights the dental hygienist’s role in oral cancer prevention and in the management of biopsy and cytology specimens.
