Course Objectives


The course is designed to help students develop the following skills and knowledge:

The ability to critically analyze bioethical and deontological issues.
Awareness of the ethical and regulatory responsibilities of healthcare professionals.
Competence in identifying and evaluating ethical dilemmas in laboratory practice.
Understanding of the Professional Code of Ethics and relevant regulations.

Course Prerequisites


Fundamental knowledge gained from the prerequisite courses detailed in the study plan.

Contents


Module Overview
This module examines the key ethical and deontological issues that arise in biomedical and healthcare practices, with a specific focus on the role of the Biomedical Laboratory Technician. Students will engage in critical analyses of contemporary bioethical dilemmas and will gain an understanding of the relevant regulatory and professional frameworks.

Topics Covered
- Fundamentals of morality, ethics, and bioethics
- Core principles of bioethics: autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice
- The bioethics surrounding the beginning and end of life
- Genetic manipulation, cloning, and the use of stem cells
- Animal and human experimentation
- Informed consent and the privacy of healthcare data
- The role and structure of Ethics Committees
- The regulatory evolution of the Biomedical Laboratory Technician profession
- Study and application of the Professional Code of Ethics ​​​​​​​
