Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to provide students with:

a solid understanding of the physical principles underlying MR signal generation;

knowledge of relaxation mechanisms (T1, T2, T2*) and their implications for image contrast;

the ability to recognize, analyze, and correct the main imaging artifacts;

competence in the critical use of pulse sequences and contrast strategies in clinical practice;

an understanding of the diagnostic trade-offs between spatial resolution, acquisition time, and image quality;

knowledge of the main MRI hardware components and their role in image formation.

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of general physics, particularly electromagnetism.

Elementary mathematics (algebra, exponential functions).

Introductory concepts of medical imaging in clinical practice.

Teaching Methods

Lectures supported by multimedia resources (schemes, diagrams, MR images).

Small-group assignments involving the discussion of scientific articles and presentations on specific topics.

Optional guided exercises based on case studies and image analysis.

Assessment Methods

Oral examination aimed at verifying:

the ability to apply knowledge and understanding to simulated clinical cases;

the capacity to critically discuss sequence selection, contrast strategies, and artifact reduction methods;

mastery of technical and scientific terminology.
