Syllabus

Course Objectives

The main purpose of the course is to provide to the student an introduction to the molecular basis and pathophysiology of diseases linked to environmental factors. To provide tools to understand human diseases, particularly relevant pathologies are illustrated, both because they are frequent and constitute important pathology models. Some iatrogenic pathologies and examples of molecular mechanisms implicated in adverse drug reactions are also introduced within the course. Topics covered include: general etiology, pathophysiology, environmental factors, genetic and molecular pathology, physical, chemical and biological agents such as cause of disease, drug-related diseases, inflammation, fever, immunology, oncology.

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge acquired in the courses of Human Anatomy and Applied Biology, General Physiology and applied to the environment concerning the anatomy, physiology and biology of man in non-pathological conditions. Introductory notes on anatomy, physiology and biology are referred to in the lessons of the course of Fundamentals of general pathology and pathologies from environmental causes, where appropriate, to facilitate understanding of the course topics.

Teaching Methods

Teaching activities will be offered through frontal lessons.

Assessment Methods

The final exam consists of an oral test during which the student is asked questions on several topics among those described in the detailed teaching program. The final evaluation is carried out on the basis of the precision and level of depth with which the student replies to the questions asked, also in relation to the expected learning.
