Syllabus

Course Objectives

The aim of this course is for students to achieve level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL):
1. Comprehension: a) listening comprehension: ability to understand everything heard, such as tv programs, movies, recordings;
b) reading comprehension: ability to understand any text, included theoretical texts, structurally and linguistically complex as manuals, specialized articles and literary works;

2. Speaking:
a) Interaction: ability to communicate fluently in any kind of conversation or discussion; knowledge of colloquial and idiomatic expressions; ability to express themselves easily and accurately.
b) Oral production - production of complex texts, in a style appropriate to the context, logically and effectively articulated.

3. Writing: ability to write clear, complex and stylistically appropriate texts; ability to write summaries, reviews of literary works and specialized texts.

Course Prerequisites

The skills and knowledge that students with a first level laurea degree are expected to master.

Teaching Methods

The course will follow the "blended learning" approach. Together with lessons based on the communicative approach, we will use mulimedial supports in Serbian and Croatian languages. Teamwork will also be ecouraged and practiced, as ell as class presentations and tandem works. The course will benefit from the support of the foreign language assistant.

Assessment Methods

The final oral exam will assess the student's acquisition of the basic notions and issues of the course. The student's ability to contextualize and critically discuss the materials will also be assessed. The grading scale is from 1 to 30, and the exam will be evaluated on the basis of the the correctness and completeness of the answers with respect to the indicated criteria. An excellent score (27-30) will be given to students who show an in-depth knowledge of the course contents, are able to contextualize their knowledge and critically discuss it. A good score (22-26) will be given to students who know the course contents and are able to establsih links among them; a sufficient score (18-21) will be given to students able to present the main contents of the course. An insufficient score will be given to students who do not know the basic notions and topics of the course.
Attendance of the language tutorials offered by the CEL is strongly recommended. These will help students to achieved the required QCER level and pass the final language exam.
