Syllabus

Course Objectives

Aim of the course is the acquisition of basic knowledge of Topographic, Macroscopic and Microscopic Anatomy of the organs located within the thoracic and abdominal cavities, of the Nervous System and of the development and formation of human embryo. At the end of the learning process, the student will know the position and morhology (both macro and microscopic) of the organs of all the apparati and systems of the human body. They will be able to describe every organ in details, in relation to structure and to topoghraphic and functional correlation with other organs. Vascularization and anatomical and functional interrelation will be learned as well.

Course Prerequisites

The student has to be familiar with the eukaryotic cell organization, the structure and function of the cellular organelles, the cell replication, the cell respiration and the protein translation. The knowledge of the different cell types, and their specialization is required as well. The achievement of the Animal and Plant Biology test is required to access to the Human Anatomy examination.

Teaching Methods

Lesson: power point presentation including anatomical drawings and pictures from corpses for topoghaphic and macroscopic anatomy, and pictures of optic and elctronic microscopy slides for microscopic anatomy. Use of microscpic anatomy websites and on the Visible Body 3D, available on the digital library of our University. Practical exercitations on anatomical models (for macroscopic anatomy) and slides of biological samples (for microscopic anatomy)

Assessment Methods

During the course two intermediate examinations will be scheduled for the students of the first year, consisting in three written questions whose answers are due in one hour. A further oral examination (three questions on the remaining part of the program) is planned for each of call examination. The final score is the average of the score obtained in the three steps. If the stepwise examination is not passed, an oral examination has to be taken during one of the call examination.
