Course Objectives


At the end of the course, students will:
- have acquired the reading and oral comprehension skills, as well as the writing and speaking skills of C1 level, and a metalinguistic knowledge of C1 level
- have acquired the main notions developed within the field of pragmatics (deixis, speech acts, cooperation principle, politeness theory)
- have acquired practical skills relating to the analysis and composition of texts belonging to certain (written and oral) genres typical of online communication
- have acquired the basic methodological and pedagogic skills involved in the teaching of Spanish.

Course Prerequisites


In order to access this class, students need to have oral and written comprehension and production skills corresponding to Level B2 of CEFR for Spanish.

Teaching Methods


The course consists of: (a) classes held by the instructor(s); (b) practical sessions held by the lector(s).
The classes offered by the instructor(s) are both lectures (aimed at providing the necessary theoretical background) and seminars (with students' active participation).
The practical sessions with the lector(s) are highly interactive and are necessary to acquire the language skills needed to successfully complete the final exam.
For these reasons, attendance of both the instructors' and lectors' classes is strongly recommended.

Assessment Methods


Final assessment consists of a written and an oral exam.
Written and oral exams can be sat in different sessions (summer, fall, winter). Students access the oral exam only after passing the written exam. Both parts will need to be passed before the winter session (January/February 2027) in order to officially register the final result.
The written exam is valid until the winter session (January/February 2027).
WRITTEN EXAM
OPTION 1 (for students who attend the classes, participate in the practical sessions of Module 2 and develop a personal portfolio of activities):
The written exam consists of:
- written comprehension and production tasks (level C1);
- analysis and production of micro-texts to test the acquisition of concepts and skills related to pragmatics (Module 1);
- submission and class presentation of the personal portfolio developed during Module 2.
OPTION 2 (for students who do not attend classes and do not work on their personal portfolio):
- written comprehension and production tasks (level C1);
- analysis and production of micro-texts to test the acquisition of concepts and skills related to pragmatics (Module 1);
- open questions on Moduls 2 bibliography.
Please note: THE WRITTEN PART (OPTION 1 AND OPTION 2) COVERS THE CONTENTS AND SKILLS OF THE LECTURERS' COURSE AND THOSE OF THE LECTOR. THE WRITTEN PART WILL BE GRADED ON A SCALE OF 30.
ORAL EXAM
The oral exam is only accessed after successful completion of the written exam.
The oral exam will aim to verify, through a conversation between the course convenors, the lector, and the student:
- the acquisition of oral skills at level C1;- the student's comprehension and ability to discuss the content of non-fiction books.
OPTION 1 (for students who attend the classes, participate in the practical sessions of Module 2 and develop a personal portfolio of activities): questions on 2 of the novels in the reading list.
OPTION 2 (for students who do not attend the classes): questions on 4 of the novels in the reading list.

Please note: IN THE ORAL EXAMINATION THE STUDENT IS INTERVIEWED BY BOTH THE LECTURER AND THE LECTOR (AT THE SAME TIME ON THE SAME DATE). THE ORAL EXAM IS GRADED ON A SCALE OUT OF 30, AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE FINAL GRADE BY AVERAGING WITH THE WRITTEN EXAM.

At the end of this course students are supposed to achieve level C1 of CEFR and of metalinguistic competences associated to the C1 level.
The class consists of two modules:
MODULE 1 (Prof. Piccioni): The theoretical sessions will illustrate the main concepts developed within the field of pragmatics (deixis, speech acts, cooperation principle, politeness theory).In the practical sessions these theoretical concepts will be exploited in practical activities and exercises aimed at the analysis and composition of texts belonging to a number of (written and oral) genres typical of online communication.
MODULO 2 (Prof. Pomponio): introduction (both theoretical and applied) to the main concepts developed in the teaching of Spanish language, with particular attention to the following topics:- The protagonists of the teaching / learning process;- Preparation of the activities: programming, planning and evaluation;- Planning of micro-lessons and material preparation.

SYLLABUS VALIDITY
The syllabus is valid for the whole 2025/2026 academic year (until the exam session of January/February 2027).
For the final grade to be officially registered, students must have successfully completed all the parts of the exam by the last session of the 2025-2026 academic year.
