Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the student with a broader understanding of the concept of grammar, with regard to the Portuguese language in its multi-center context. The study of the different linguistic, formalist and functionalist approaches, which are subject to the texts taken into consideration in the course, aim to situate the student in the universe of linguistic analysis in the different sociolinguistic contexts of Portuguese expression. In addition, the student must at the end of the course be able to situate Brazilian Portuguese from an historical, sociolinguistic and political point of view, making use of the formation moments of the Brazilian Nation State, of the national identity of Brazil as an integral part of the CPLP (Comunidade dos países de língua portuguesa) and MERCOSUL .

Teaching Methods

lectures, cooperative learning, multimedia workshop, seminars and round tables.

Assessment Methods

in itinere tests, final written exam preparatory to the oral examination and final oral exam. The written exam covers one of the course topics. The student is invited to speak in writing on one of the main topics of the course, using the theoretical references indicated, read and discussed during the course. The oral exam is the discussion of a written paper on a course topic agreed with the teacher beforehand and in times and ways negotiated with the student. In addition to this, the student must demonstrate a knowledge of the various topics covered during the course through a brief oral interview.
