Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to guide the student to fully learn the theoretical and critical bases of the multiple types of relationships that typify phenomena and social realities from the origins to the societies of the Third Millennium. Therefore, providing the student with a toolbox, including concepts, theories, history and thought of sociologists from the founding fathers to contemporary ones, to be able to read and understand with careful analysis, the complexity of sociology as a modern and contemporary science and consequently the succession and concomitance of events that have led, for example, to the processes of globalization. A fundamental part of the course will focus on the introduction to criminology. Both the theories of criminology will be treated with the valid and agile support of the work of Isabella Merzagora, developing reflections on crime, on the criminal and on the social reaction to the phenomenon and criminal action, and on the practical implications inherent in treatment, control and preventive action. During the lessons, which will also include the integration of videos, topics such as: homicide, domestic violence, violence against the elderly, serial killers, forensic psychopathology, or even femicide, and Human Criminology will be addressed.
