Course Objectives


Course ObjectivesThis course introduces students to the core themes of sociological theory, approached from a historical perspective to highlight both their origins and their contemporary significance.
Course StructureThe learning path is divided into two parts:


Part I: presentation of the key sociological concepts, aimed at providing the analytical tools needed to interpret different theoretical frameworks.

Part II: study of major sociological theories developed by classical and contemporary authors, with a focus on their historical development and their contribution to understanding social phenomena.

Learning OutcomesBy the end of the course, students will be able to:


identify and explain the main concepts of sociological theory;

critically interpret the contributions of classical and contemporary authors;

apply theoretical perspectives to the analysis of social processes.

Lectures and seminars

Assessment Methods


Written and/or oral examination to assess:

knowledge of the main authors and concepts;
ability to critically discuss the issues covered;
appropriate use of disciplinary language.

Possible intermediate self-assessment tests (short-answer questions and text discussions).

Course ObjectivesThe course is designed to guide students in exploring the fundamental themes of sociological theory, presented through a historical perspective that highlights both their development and contemporary relevance.
Course StructureThe program will be organized into two main parts:


First part: introduction to the key concepts of sociology, providing essential tools to read and interpret different theories.

Second part: examination of the sociological theories developed by some of the most influential classical and contemporary authors, in order to understand how their ideas have contributed to explaining social phenomena.

The course is in Italian, will be organized discussions in English in according to foreign students
