Course Objectives


Learning the fundamentals of the most important European collections, their formation, history and dispersion up to the present day. To critically transform existing knowledge into skills that can be applied in today's museums to meet the most urgent and current challenges of cultural museum heritage.
The expected learning outcomes at the end of the course are:
- deep knowledge of the specific vocabulary of museology and museography in its evolution over time
- competence in analysing the history of a collection and a museum and the ability to place it in the broader framework of global cultural history
- knowledge of the challenges of museology today and the ability to respond to them critically and personally

Course Prerequisites


No prerequisites are required, but a basic knowledge of modern art history and art criticism is preferred.

Teaching Methods


Interactive lectures, with contributions from guest speakers and professionals. Educational field trips are planned; on a voluntary basis, students may be asked to collaborate in their preparation.
