Syllabus

Course Objectives

The teaching of Drawing for Design aims to introduce the student to the knowledge of the theoretical and practical tools to elaborate and manage the representation and the two-dimensional and three-dimensional visualization (analog and digital) in different areas of design, from product design to interior design.
At the end of the course the student:
- knows the methodologies of representation, descriptive geometry, surveying and photography;
- knows and knows how to apply the theoretical and practical tools to develop and manage the representation of a user product of low complexity;
- will understand dimensional, geometric and morphological aspects of the components of the industrial product;
- has acquired the skills to describe and communicate the industrial product;
- can use the basic tools of digital drawing of low-complexity objects (2D/3D)
- knows and uses the basic techniques of the main software for modeling, visualization, vector and raster graphic
- has developed through the practice of drawing communication and foresight skills;
- knows some of the most iconic objects of the masters of design.

Course Prerequisites

No prerequisite is required

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodology is divided into modules of lessons, exercises and thematic workshops, and includes:
- ex-cathedra contributions offered by the teaching (lectures/presentations/workshops);
- monographic and seminar lessons;
- individual classroom exercises;
- collective and individual reviews;
- intermediate checks and ongoing evaluation of graphic and infographic works (mandatory)
- compilation of a personal digital-notebook, which will testify the learning path (analog and digital) of each student;
The individual student is required to have his own work equipment for both analogue and digital drawing.
The course will supply the basic notions on the main applications: for vector and raster graphics (notes on Illustrator and Photoshop); for modeling (notes on Rhinoceros); for SFM Structure-from-Motion, digital capture of point clouds through photographs (notes on Agisoft Metashape).

Assessment Methods

The teaching of Drawing for Design includes three individual ongoing evaluation expressed in thirtieths
- first ongoing evaluation relating to paper 1: The Form. Survey and Photography of an Object built with Lego;
- second ongoing evaluation relating to paper 2: Memory. The drawing of the Masters of Design;
- third ongoing evaluation relating to work 3: The digital-notebook, or the collection in brochure format of the documents and extempore carried out in class;
The exam is individual and is based on a critical discussion of the work carried out, also considering the judgments of the ongoing evaluations.
The votes are expressed in thirtieths.

Contents

The teaching of Drawing for Design provides a basic training in the field of two-dimensional and three-dimensional representation (analog and digital) in the different areas of design applications, from Product design to Interior design and Communication Design.
The contents of the course concern the methodologies and procedures necessary to understand, measure, represent and communicate the characteristics of the industrial product and interior design.
The course provides the basic skills, methods and tools related to descriptive geometry, surveying, analog/ digital drawing (2D/ 3D), product photography and interior design, investigating theories also from the historical point of view.

Course Language

The teaching language is Italian.
