Syllabus

Course Objectives

Provide basic knowledge of major geological processes, geological environments. Introduction to rocks, minerals present on planet earth. Provide a basic knowledge of hydrogeology and slope stability.

Course Prerequisites

no prerequisites are required.

Frontal lessons.

Assessment Methods

Verifications in progress through written tests. Final written and oral exam.

Material and handouts provided by the teacher.

Contents

Earth formation. Elements of plate tectonics. Rocks and minerals. Metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rocks. Sedimentary environments. Earthquakes. Main elements of hydrogeology. Soil identification and classification. The landslides. Investigations to be carried out in landslide areas. Evaluation criteria of slope stability.
