Course Objectives

LEARNING OBJECTIVESThe teaching of General Pathology contributes to the realization of the educational objective of the Study Programme in Cardiocirculatory Pathophysiology and Cardiovascular Perfusion Techniques
(Article 3 of the REGULATION)
AMBITO DELLE SCIENZE PROPEDEUTICHE E BIOMEDICHE
Conoscenza e comprensione
The teachings included in this area aim to provide basic knowledge useful for understanding the physical, biochemical, physiological as well as general and clinical pathology phenomena that regulate the state of health in humans and the mechanisms of the development of pathological conditions. Particular importance will be given to providing useful elements for understanding the specific technical-scientific language of the various disciplines included in the area in order to allow the decoding of the notions for the purpose of their learning.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
The student in TFCPC must be able to critically analyze and interpret the biochemical, physiological and pathological phenomena connected to the disease state; this knowledge must be aimed both at the classes of pathologies specific to the discipline and at the possible pathological implications that can be configured as complications of extracorporeal circulation.

Course Prerequisites

To the whole understanding of the disciplines is required: knowledge of biology, histology, anatomy. To have passed the exam of “Biology, Anatomy and Histology”, first year, second semester.

Teaching Methods

The course will be held through interactive lectures with the aid of iconographic material in Power Point files for a total of 15 hours. Theoretical knowledge will be acquired through attendance at lessons, integrated with the study of recommended texts, handouts and material provided by the teacher, uploaded to the FAD platform and available for consultation via the link relating to the course.

Assessment Methods

The assessment method consists of an oral exam. The evaluation is expressed in thirtieths, the exam is passed if the evaluation is equal or superior to eighteen/thirty (18/30).In determining the order in which the students are to be examined, the specific needs of working students will be specifically considered. The assessment of insufficiency is not accompanied by a vote.Praise may be granted unanimously, if the final grade is thirty. The publicity of the exams is assured and the communication of the final result of the test and its evaluation are published. For the evaluation of the oral exam, the following assessment schedule will be considered: DATACONTENT: CORRECTNESS AND RELEVANCEDESCRIPTORS: Complete: 30Extensive: 29-27Discrete even with some gaps: 26-24Fully enough: 23-21Just enough with obvious shortcomings: 20-18----------------------DATAARGUMENTS: BREADTH AND COHERENCEDESCRIPTORSRigorous and documented highlighting ability to use the acquired knowledge and to link it in the argumentation: 30Precise and detailed: 29-27Appropriate: 26-24Fully enough: 23-21Just enough: 20-18--------------------------DATAEXPRESSIVE CORRECTNESS, PROPERTY OF SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE, COMMUNICATIVE ABILITYDESCRIPTORSRefined and original: 30Clear, flowing and correct: 29-27Discrete: 26-24Sufficient: 23-21Not fully adequate: 20-18To pass the exam you must obtain a grade of not less than 18/30.To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate that he has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to link them in a logical and coherent way.

Texts

J. Anne Marie Maier, Massimo Mariotti “Elementi di Patologia generale e Fisiopatologia”, McGraw Hill, Milano.G.M. Pontieri “Patologia e Fisiopatologia Generale” per i corsi di laurea in Professioni Sanitarie Piccin, Padova.
Teaching material provided by the teacher with express recommendation to the students to use it only as an aid/guide to the preparation of the exam. It is recalled, in fact, that the use of the recommended General Pathology books (exclusive choice of the student) is essential for a correct, useful and easier preparation of the subject. Students are required to perform all the topics indicated in the program even if not included in the teaching material. Finally, students are warned against the use of photocopies of educational material (presumed printouts of the lessons) ABUSIVELY sold at the copy shops.
