Course Objectives


The Course aims to provide an introduction to international commercial exchange that will be addressed starting from the fundamentals of customs legislation, the preferential and non-preferential Origin of Goods, the EU Customs Tariff and the classification of goods. The essential documentation for international transport, the fundamental tools for Supply Chain Management and logistics will also be analysed.
LEARNING OUTCOMES EXPECTED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS UNDERSTANDING
After completing the course, students must be in possession of the knowledge for understanding:
- the main characteristics of the Community’s customs legislation;
- the main customs operations;
- the main characteristics regarding logistics and Supply Chain Management.

JUDGEMENT
After completing the course, students will be able to identify/develop links between the various issues in the multidisciplinary perspective.​​​​​​​
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
At the end of the course students will acquire an appropriate specific technical-scientific language relating to the management of international trade typical of customs terminology, logistics and Supply Chain Management.


Course Prerequisites


This course does not require any prior knowledge or prerequisites.

Teaching Methods


The course is delivered by combining traditional lectures with inclusive teaching methods such as flipped classroom, cooperative learning, problem solving, hands-on workshops, and class debates. The integrative teaching approach is designed to enhance different learning styles, facilitate content acquisition, and create opportunities for dialogue, exchange, and collaboration among students.
For attending students, part of the course content will be assessed through a group project aimed at collaboratively applying the knowledge acquired and developing transversal skills such as critical thinking, communication, and teamwork.

Assessment Methods


The exam consists in an oral interview aimed at verifying the learning, the conceptual mastery, the vocabulary and the ability to interpret and synthesize. The examination questions include both descriptive and critical elements. Grading uses a 30-point scale.

The Customs Commodity Science of Supply Chains course aims to provide students with a foundational understanding of the current landscape in customs and international trade, exploring the main challenges and ongoing transformations within global supply chains.
The course is designed to offer solid introductory knowledge of the commodity and customs-related aspects that impact international trade, with a specific focus on customs operations and the management of relationships among supply chain stakeholders.
The program covers the study of customs regulations, preferential and non-preferential origin of goods, tariff classification, and customs duties. It also includes an analysis of the key documents required for international transport, as well as the essential tools for logistics and Supply Chain Management, with particular attention to the sustainability of operations.
