L0007L - FRENCH LANGUAGE AND LINGUISTICS I

In line with the learning objectives of the Bachelor's programmes in Foreign Languages and Literatures and in Linguistic Mediation and Intercultural Communication, this course aims to provide students with the tools to identify and successfully overcome the challenges posed by the French language.The course is designed to offer theoretical and methodological foundations for linguistic analysis from a contrastive perspective (Italian–French), while also introducing students to the basic principles of phonetics and morphosyntax in French, with a view to initiating them into translation practice.
In addition, the course aims to develop linguistic and communicative competence, fostering oral comprehension, production and interaction skills, as well as written comprehension and production, progressing from level A1 to level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) — the final target level of the course.Students will also acquire cultural knowledge related to everyday life and key aspects of the Francophone world.
Language Practice (lettorato) – Level A2:
Students are expected to acquire the grammatical, lexical and communicative skills appropriate to level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Council of Europe).


At the end of the course, students will have acquired basic knowledge of the phonetics, morphosyntax and core vocabulary of the French language, with particular attention to the main differences and similarities from a contrastive Italian–French perspective. They will also have developed an essential understanding of the main cultural and communicative aspects of the Francophone world, with reference to everyday life.
Students will be able to apply the linguistic knowledge acquired to the comprehension and production of simple texts in French, both oral and written, appropriate to level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They will be able to use basic tools of linguistic analysis to identify and address the main difficulties of the French language, also with a view to an initial introduction to translation practice.
At the end of the course, students will have developed the ability to reflect autonomously on basic linguistic phenomena, identifying recurrent errors and correction strategies, as well as evaluating linguistic choices in a conscious and appropriate manner in relation to the communicative context and to the comparison between Italian and French.
Students will be able to understand, produce and interact orally in simple communicative situations, and to understand and produce short written texts on topics related to everyday life, in accordance with the descriptors of level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They will be able to use basic vocabulary and simple grammatical structures in an appropriate and intelligible way.
At the end of the course, students will have developed autonomous language learning strategies useful for consolidating and further developing their competences in French. They will be able to continue the study of the language at higher levels, also through self-learning tools and metalinguistic reflection.
