Course Objectives


The subject aims to provide the basic knowledge and skills in the area of L2 Italian teaching, with reference to the theoretical and practical framework of cultural-linguistic mediation. More specifically, the subject seeks to provide the necessary tools to conduct critical analyses of real-life situations, from both a sociocultural and pedagogical perspective, to be then applied to the development of concrete projects in the field of L2 Italian teaching and cultural-linguistic mediation.


EXPECTED KNOWLEDGE OUTCOMES
TThe subject will enable students to critically analyse situations characterised by linguistic and cultural contact, so as to plan effective teaching and mediation interventions in the domain of L2 Italian. As a result, the students will be able to combine theoretical knowledge and pratical skills in the development of professional skills pertaining to the various domains of language teaching and cultural-linguistic mediation.


KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND
Knowledge and understanding of the main language teaching approaches, methods and techniques in the field of L2 Italian teaching. Knowledge and understanding of the main assessment tools and resources for L2 Iitalian. Knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and practical framework pertaining to cultural-linguistic mediation. Knowledge and understanding of the main methods to analyse situations involving linguistic and cultural contact. Knowledge and understaing of the main methods for pedagogical and mediation intervention in situations of linguistic and cultural contact.


ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
To be able to analise real-life situations characterised by cultural and linguistic contact and to consequently identify the implications, on the teaching and mediation level. To be able to plan materials and interventions for teaching and mediation, on the basis of appropriate and adequate context analyses.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT
To be able to develop critical reflection on the methods and technique of L2 Italian teaching, and on the analysis of contexts characterised by cultural-linguistic contact. To be able to assess materials for language teaching and cultural-linguistic mediation, in the context of 2 Italian.

COMMUNICATION ABILITIES
To be able to illustrate the main methods and technique used in L2 Italian teaching, also with reference to the assessment of language competencies. To be able to describe and motivate the methodological choices adopted in the development of individual or group projects.

Assessment Methods


Learning assessment will take place through a written exam, which will constitute a prerequisite for admission to the oral exam. Unless otherwise indicated, both exams will take place on the same day and will be assessed with a score out of 30. The exam aims at evaluating the students' preparation on the content of the course, both on the theoretical and on the methodological and practical level. The comment on the practical sessions, developed during the course, will be integral part of the evaluation. Non-attending students will have to contact the professor in order to agree on a project to develop, well in advance of sitting the exam.

Contents


The course focuses on the theoretical and practical foundations of L2 Italian teaching and cultural-linguistic mediation. It analyses the concept of mediation, with reference to the implications for both the planning of teaching and testing resources in L2 Italian and the development of competencies pertaining to the profile of the cultural-linguistic mediator. The lectures will be integrated by pratical sessions dedicated to current situations from the real world.

Weekly office hours will aim at address any doubts the students may have. There are no differences between attending and non-attending students. A language competence of at least C1 in Italian is required.
