Syllabus

Course Objectives


As part of the MA programme, this course aims to consolidate and improve the students’ language skills, focusing on grammar structures, functions and vocabulary (General English and, in particular, English for Psychology) consistent with the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference. Students are expected to acquire and improve their ability to understand more complex texts (mainly though not exclusively written texts) concerning their field of study.

Course Prerequisites


Students are expected to possess a level of competence in English corresponding to the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference.

Teaching Methods


In class lessons will include reading activities and guided text analyses. A wide variety of texts will be considered, focusing mainly on the Languages of Psychology, in addition to practicing grammar structures and vocabulary.

Assessment Methods


Students are required to pass a written test including grammar exercises, vocabulary questions, and reading comprehension.

Speakout Upper Intermediate, 2nd edition (2015), Pearson.In additon, teaching materials will be provided during the course

Contents


General English, ESP (English for Psychology). Grammatical and syntactic structures, lexical and stylistic elements, communicative functions.
