Syllabus

Course Objectives


Learn the tool to find, understand and process the data necessary to realize a planetary geological map.

Learn the technical as well as the scientific tools to realize a planetary geological map.




Course Prerequisites


Knowledge of the basic concepts and tools of geology. To have attended the lectures of 'Planetary Geology'




Teaching Methods


Classroom-taught lecture for the basic principles. Practical exercises with the realization of a cartographic project from the data selection phase up to the geological map preparation.




Assessment Methods


Realization of a geological mapping project:

- Choice of the study area

- Realization of the geographical and geological contexts

- Data processing

- Geological Map preparation

- Geological section preparation

- Stratigraphic schemes preparation



Presentation of the results including methods and explanation of the geology of the study area: mapped units description, stratigraphic relations, evolution of the depositional environments through time.
