Course Objectives

The teaching of Social Service Methods and Techniques adheres to the professional profile of the Degree Course, sharing its general objectives through a thematic articulation of its topics, which will be presented and analyzed as the main methodological and operational aspects of welfare in its relational dimension, institutional, professional and instrumental. The training objectives of the Course are to acquire adequate knowledge:
1) of the "competence to act" typical of welfare professionalism;
2) the protection of the person in all forms of hardship provided for by regulations and applied studies on social change;
3) the perspective of social planning and intervention for social and health integration and personal protection.
Furthermore, themes and models of the social work profession will be explored in depth, such as role identity, documentation, the relationship and the helping process, the professional interview, the home visit and the appropriate application of research and research tools and methods. social intervention typical of the different areas of socio-health integration.
At the end of the course, the student must possess knowledge and skills relating to the role identity of the help professional, the network methodology, the trifocality and subsidiarity criteria of the professional system of social services put into practice, the interaction and social and relational intervention on the person, in line with the training of a professional figure responsible for individual social planning and intervention on the person in the different areas of socio-health integration of the welfare system services.

Knowledge and understanding
- has a professionalizing knowledge of the figure of the Social Worker and of the professional methodology and techniques used in Social Service
- possesses a broad theoretical knowledge of interaction, evaluation and planning models of interventions for the person
- distinguishes the different social policies and interventions according to the areas of response and related needs

Autonomy of judgement
- connects social problems and needs to the related response methods of professionals
- autonomously interprets the relationship between theoretical models and applied interventions
- compare the knowledge acquired with the most recent approaches, orienting and updating the overall framework on teaching topics
- make their general and specific considerations on the course topics in oral form, showing that they connect them in an interdisciplinary way

Communication skills
- Uses the disciplinary language of welfare and social policies
- Expresses concepts on the topics of the course and carries out personal reflections in a congruent and appropriate way with respect to what has been learned.

Course Prerequisites

The course will allow even Students who have not specific knowledge on the subject to reach the indicated educational objectives. No preliminary knowledge is required.

Teaching Methods

The course includes 36 hours of lessons divided into 3 weekly lessons of 2 hours. Teaching will be offered through lectures, educational seminars with the participation of experts and professionals, use of lecture notes, slides and other in-depth scientific and bibliographical material during the lessons, also on e-learning platform.

Assessment Methods

Verification: Oral examination, carried out through questions concerning the teaching program carried out by the lecturer in the classroom and the topics of the texts foreseen therein and treated during the lessons. Evaluation: votes expressed in thirtieths.

Contents

The contents of the course will be based on a broad theoretical-conceptual and operational articulation of professional social work between theory, research and interventions, with the aim of presenting the main methodological issues of social help and intervention. Furthermore, among other topics, the method and reference models of professional social work, the helping relationship and its phases, the helping process and its methodological phases will also be explained. Great importance will be attributed to trifocality and networking, with the illustration of the main tools for helping in social services. Subsidiarity and its institutional dimensions in the Welfare system will also have a prominent place during the lessons, together with the identification of the different areas and profiles of socio-health integration, in its regulatory and methodological aspects.
