Course Objectives

If hermeneutics is traditionally defined as the art of
understanding a foreign discourse, it classically
does so through works, through objectivations.
Intercultural hermeneutics poses the question of
understanding the other on another scale, which
includes works, but is placed at the level of
communities of interpretation and their practices.
The question of "how to understand the foreigner"
thus takes on a broader dimension, in the context of
the dialogue between cultures, and opens up
political and social dimensions.
The course aims to illustrate the fundamentalelements of an intercultural hermeneutics also
looking at our 'nanoracialist' preconceptions.

Course Prerequisites

A basic knowledge of the history of philosophy is preferable, but not necessary.

Teaching Methods

The lectures will be conducted in a frontal manner, with the possible help of slides or movies.

Assessment Methods

Learning will be assessed through an oral exam lasting approximately 20-25 minutes, graded on a scale of 30, which will consist of two or three questions on the various topics and books covered in the course. The interview will assess the following aspects:

1. Knowledge of the program content

2. Clarity of presentation

3. Appropriateness of language in relation to the discipline

4. Personal reworking of the content.

Satisfaction of points 1 and 2 is a necessary condition for passing the exam. Grades above 27 will be awarded to students whose tests satisfy points 1, 2, and 3. The maximum score, with possible honors, will be awarded to those whose tests fully satisfy all four points indicated.
