Syllabus

Course Objectives


Basic concepts of seismic analysis of structures (SDOF and MDOF systems). Seismi forces compted from spectra. Modal analyses for the design of new masonry structures and the assessment of existing buildings

The class involves lectures and in class problem assignements that involve the used of MS Excel

Assessment Methods


Homework asssignements will be graded and then discussed during lectures.
There will be a two-hour midterm written exam at the end of the 30-hour model

Contents


Dyanmic and seismic behavior of structures. Response Spectra. Design Spectra. Modal analyses with ground motion records and design spectra. Building code rules and introduction to seismic input for masonry structures.
