Syllabus

Course Objectives


The course contributes to achieving the educational objectives of the Degree Programme by providing students with theoretical knowledge and methodological tools that are essential for understanding and analyzing the main topics of the relevant discipline. Specifically, students are expected to have acquired:

an appropriate contextualization of psychological knowledge within the natural, human, and social sciences;
mastery of fundamental elements of experimental research techniques, behavioral observation, and statistical analysis of psychological data, as well as basic methodologies for investigation and intervention;
the ability to critically address issues related to the objects of study in psychology and to communicate their reflections effectively.

Expected learning outcomes:

Knowledge and understanding:

To build foundational expertise in measurement theory and research methods used in psychological science, including quantitative approaches and key statistical techniques for analyzing behavioral data.

Applying knowledge and understanding:

To foster awareness of psychology’s inherently interdisciplinary nature, recognizing the essential contributions of biomedical and humanistic disciplines that have shaped its scientific foundation.

Making judgements:

Test and validate one’s own knowledge and assumptions.

Communication skills:

To demonstrate the ability to communicate acquired knowledge through oral presentations and written assignments on specific topics or open-ended questions.

Learning skills:

To develop reflective thinking and metacognitive awareness regarding learning strategies and academic content.

Course Prerequisites


The proposed program will allow students who have not previously acquired disciplinary knowledge to achieve the indicated educational objectives. There are therefore no prerequisites, but supplementary readings may be recommended.

Contents


This course is delivered asynchronously via an online platform and is structured into progressive modules aimed at developing English language skills from A2 to B2 levels of the CEFR. The content focuses on real-life communication in social, academic, and professional contexts.
Key topics include social interaction (talking about oneself, family, emotions), professional telephone communication, describing health issues, presenting a product or service, writing formal emails, and promoting one’s professional profile (writing a CV, motivation letter, and preparing for job interviews).
Additional modules cover academic and university-related skills such as note-taking, giving presentations, writing internship reports, summarizing texts, and compiling bibliographies. More advanced content includes discussing current events, media, safety and security, educational debates, and future plans.
The course integrates activities for listening, reading, writing, and speaking, as well as grammar and vocabulary practice. It is designed to support independent and flexible learning, with a practical focus on using English effectively in study and work environments.
