Syllabus

Course Objectives


The main tasks are the interpretation of seismic reflection profiles in different geological, statigraphical and structural contexts (e.g., the Northern Apennines, Adriatic offshore; North Sea; North-West Australia; Gulf of Mexico, etc..). The course aims to provide to the students the basic techniques of interpretation of seismic reflection profiles and of contouring and mapping of key elements (horizons, faults, etc..); moreover, students will be introduced to the 3D seismic interpretation by dedicated software

Frontal lessons in classroom and teaching labs

Assessment Methods


Elaboration of a project, also in work-group, of seismic interpretation derived from the lab exercises (A grade: max10/30); oral test (B grade - max 20/30). Finale grade (max 30/30) = A grade(max10/30)+B grade (max 20/30)

Contents


The course will illustrate the main theoretical concepts and applications of the 2- and 3-D seismic reflection interpretation with application to the stratigraphic, structural and petroleum geology subsurface analysis.
